The Château Single Vineyard Shiraz

The Château Single Vineyard Shiraz originates from the deep sandy loam soils of the Château Tanunda Vine Vale vineyard, famous for some of the most elegant and fine-structured expressions of Barossa Shiraz.

Tasting Notes

This is an opulent, full-bodied wine with lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and cracked pepper supported by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate. The extensive finish is framed by elegant fruit and fine-grained tannins. Although drinking well now this wine will benefit from medium-term cellaring.

Hand-picked from select rows of our 12 ha Vine Vale vineyard at 280m elevation. The grapes are destemmed but not crushed and fermented for seven days in open fermenters with regular plunging and remontage. Upon completion of fermentation, the skins are gently basket pressed before maturing for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels.

Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

This is fresh, well-flavoured and well-made. It’s one of the most enjoyable Chateau Tanunda wines I’ve had in some time. Licorice, redcurrant, sweet cedar and woodsmoke notes put on a flavoursome show, ably supported by grainy, earthen tannin, gently salty tannin. Good stuff this. Pure Barossa.

Aaron Brasher, The Real Review

Dark and inky in the glass. Lifted aromas of plum, mulberry, dark cherry, sweet spice and creamy oak. Full flavoured, opulent and dark fruit driven. There's real generosity of flavour, but it's all balanced nicely by firm, granular tannins and punchy acidity.
